It’s time to get down to brass tacks. Let’s visualize that our imaginary inner child named Portion Control Kid is urging us to help him or her not get out-of-control. He or she entreats, “Please plan out a strategy for exercising at least thirty minutes today. Please make certain you take in at least eight glasses of water. Please give me the proper balance of food that fits the Food Pyramid Model categories of five to six ounces of grain, two to two and a half cups of vegetables, one and a half cups of fruit, four and a half to five teaspoons of oils, three cups of milk products, and five ounces of meat, beans, and proteins. Lastly, please, please, please take time to make that spiritual guidance connection so that you, and therefore I, can feel centered, grounded, and stable.”
Exercise Strategy
Exercise Strategy
What is your exercise strategy? My nutritionist gave me a document put out by Yoplait yogurt called “Small Steps for Better Health: Get to a Healthy Weight.” In this hand-out, details are given for ways to burn calories by doing common activities.
In order to lose weight, our fitness goal is to burn more calories than we eat.
Based on a person who weighs 150 pounds, this hand-out details the following methods for burning 100 calories:
* 18 minutes of light house cleaning
* 20 minutes of walking (3.5 mph)
* 14 minutes of golfing
* 20 minutes of gardening
* 20 minutes of mowing a lawn using a push mower
* 20 minutes of yoga
* 10 minutes of snow shoeing
* 9 minutes using an elliptical trainer
* 10 minutes of swimming
* 10 minutes of running (5 mph)
* 10 minutes of bicycling (12-14 mph)
As for me, the date is December 13, 2010. The ground is covered with snow. My fitness strategy for today will combine doing laundry, using my Walk Away the Pounds DVD with Leslie Sansone, and several minutes of using my Shake Weight for Men that weighs five pounds. I shake it and also use it as a bar bell.

Drinking Water Strategy
Drinking Water Strategy
Most diet programs propose that we all should drink at least eight glasses of water per day. Do you have a strategy for consuming your eight glasses of water daily?
As for me, I bought a 64-ounce jug at Wal-Mart. It is made with the safe kind of plastic. Before going to bed, I fill it with water. My goal, upon waking, is to drink the entire jug of water before the day is out. That way, I am certain that I have consumed, at the very least, my eight glasses of water.

Spiritual Guidance for Today
Spiritual Guidance for Today
Let’s imagine that you could come face-to-face with a guardian angel who has agreed to become part of the team along with you and your inner child called Portion Control Inner Kid. Close your eyes. Take some deep, calming breaths. Listen for what your particular guardian angel would say. You might even wish to start a journal to record what spiritual insights you glean from this encounter. This may feel strange at first. But knowing that we all have woman’s or man’s intuition and those hunches we get that give us feelings of guidance, what do you hear or intuit?
When I try the same exercise, this is what I get for today:
I welcome you and Portion Control Kid to our new team. I am a guardian angel to both of you. I am here to help you both stay in balance and in control. I am here to cheer you on in your efforts to be physically and spiritually healthy. I am here to comfort you should you have things that happen that might make you feel tempted to reach for what you like to call “comfort food.”
I urge you to take some time to visualize how you wish your body to look. Picture that so clearly in your head that you feel like you have already reached this goal. As you walk through your home or your place-of-work, walk as if you have already reached your goal weight. In other words, walk with confidence that you are truly beautiful, you are healthy, you are whole, and you are loved unconditionally by God, by me, by your loved ones, and by you.
As you exercise and as you consume food and drinks, picture that you are showing love and gentleness to this body temple that houses your spirit. Be a friend to your body. Be gentle with your body. Celebrate that inner beauty that shines so strongly that your outer beauty is greatly enhanced.
Be grateful for your dexterity. Know that each day, you will get more and more agile. Be grateful for your ability to walk and move around and do the things that you need to do that require feet and legs. Be grateful for your hands and your ability to cook and clean and type and do the things that you need to do that require the use of hands. Be grateful for the food you consume. Eat slowly. Savor each bite. Feel it nourishing your body. Be grateful that those of us on the Other Side love you unconditionally and support your goal to be healthy and whole.
You can call me the Guardian of your Body Temple. You now have access to my services for the rest of your days. As you show empathy to Portion Control Kid, keeping her in balance, you are also showing empathy and compassion to your beautiful body temple. Go in peace and enjoy your day.
